MikroSim is characterized in particular by the fact that we are working together on the development and implementation of the project at several locations and from different disciplines.

Scientists from the University of Trier and the University of Duisburg-Essen work in close cooperation with the Federal Statistical Office. Continuous exchange is facilitated and specifically promoted within the framework of joint colloquia, workshops, conference visits and research stays at the respective other locations.

The interdisciplinary character of the research group results from the close cooperation of the departments of statistics and social sciences of the participating chairs. Thus, MikroSim is divided into five projects: Subprojects 1, 2, and 3 comprise methodological-technical components, while Subprojects 4 and 5 focus on content-related applications.

Under the leadership of Ralf Münnich (University of Trier) and Rainer Schnell (University of Duisburg-Essen), research is being conducted on the creation of the base population (subprojects 1 and 2) and the provision of suitable methods with which this can be projected into the future via the simulation of sociodemographic events (subproject 3).

Building on this, the working groups led by Johannes Kopp (University of Trier) and Petra Stein (University of Duisburg-Essen) are analyzing specific issues relating to the topic of family and care (subproject 4) and the integration of migrants in the labor market (subproject 5).
