DFG FOR 2559
MikroSim is characterized in particular by the fact that we are working together on the development and implementation of the project at several locations and from different disciplines.
Scientists at the University of Trier and the University of Duisburg-Essen work in close cooperation with the Federal Statistical Office. Continuous exchange is facilitated and specifically promoted within the framework of joint colloquia, workshops, conference visits and research stays at the respective other locations.
The interdisciplinary character of the research group results from the close cooperation of the departments of statistics and social sciences of the participating chairs. The goal of the second MikroSim project phase is to ensure the sustainability of the created synthetic dataset by extending and updating data and modules as well as to use it for research on microsimulation methods. Likewise, socio-politically important and interrelated topics in the fields of health research, transport and settlement sociology are to be addressed. In this way, the potential of small-scale microsimulation in Germany can also be demonstrated and researched and further developed with regard to the aforementioned topics.
The MikroSim project is divided into several subprojects, each focusing on data and methodology or topic-specific application areas.
Subproject 1: Statistical methods for the development of a simulation data center
The focus of subproject 1 is on the further development of statistical methods for microsimulation. In addition, necessary data protection and metadata concepts for a possible Simulation Data Center (SDZ) will be developed in order to make the existing simulation structure accessible to the scientific public.

Subproject 7: Simulation of educational trajectories under consideration of latent decision processes
Subproject 7 is devoted to the question of the extent to which educational decisions depend on individual factors in order to be able to carry out education-related microsimulations in the future using the synthetic dataset.

Subproject 8: Evaluation of regional hospital care
Subproject 8 investigates the potential of microsimulation to estimate the demand for hospitals in Germany. The accessibility of hospitals in terms of travel time and the regional volume of cases by diagnosis are also taken into account.
